Golden Gate Bridge
This morning I woke up at 3:45am and headed out the door at 5am to San Francisco. I'm going to take this moment to share my love of Bonine. I wouldn't have been able to drive the Tioga Pass or today, the Sonora Pass, let alone absolutely enjoy both drives, had I not taken it. I had no motion sickness and I'd like to say it improved my singing, lol.
So, here I am going up Sonora Pass and I see a sign say trucks need to turn around there is a 25% grade. I'm not sure what I thought 25% meant, but what I experienced was not it. There were hairpin turns and warnings for 10mph, this Pass was definitely no joke. The more I drove the more I wondered if it would have been faster to take the Tioga Pass than the Sonora, but here we were.
I arrived in San Francisco around 10:30am and headed down Presidio, then up Lincoln to Langdon Court Parking lot. I got my bike out directed it towards the Golden Gate Bridge. I've been here so many times a year for years, but have never had the experience of riding my bike over the bridge. Before 3pm on weekdays, pedestrians and cyclists commute across on the east side of the bridge. After 3pm and on weekends, they use the west side.
So here I am, I've got my bike out, my helmet on and I'm ready to go. I see a couple get on their bikes and head down the trail so I decide to fillow, because let's face it- no matter how many times I researched it, do I really know what I'm doing half the time? So I follow them down the hill under the bridge around to the east side and to the bridge. Whelp, here we go.... I begin my trek. The golden gate is 2.1 miles long. Because the Golden Gate is suspended over the Pacific Ocean, it can get pretty windy. I'd say today was about 20mph; enough to make my ears hurt when I was done.
What an experience this was. I stopped a few times to take a picture or enjoy the view. I absolutely recommend this if you're ever in San Francisco, but be careful many cyclists use this bridge to commute and you'll want to pull over or stay to the right if you're going to go a slower pace.
From the Bridge I headed North to Sonoma County. Tomorrow my twin brothers are graduating from high school. I got in around 1:30 and we headed to the Russian River to kayak. I am really good at finding the bushes and paddling into them. Exhibit A below.
Overall, another great day, but it's 8:23 and way past my bedtime. Goodnight 🌱💚
