Santa Cruz, California

Image
This morning I left Sonoma County and detoured to Santa Cruz. I arrived in Santa Cruz around 10:20 and showed up at the door step of my long time friend Em. We've known each other this long (picture below) For the record, that was a caveman or walk the dinosaur dance and not a bunch of unbathed girls, kaay. This girl is no joke probably one of the coolest chick's I have ever met. We road sector 9's. She sat on a curb in front of Starbucks with me when I tried a cigarette for the first time and nearly or maybe fully puked everywhere as a result. When I got grounded, I'd log into her AOL account because mine was taken away. She'd call me mad and tell me to get off and I'd try to act like it wasn't me. She never believed me. We stomped all over Indian wells and when she moved to Coronado,  we stomped all over Coronado too. We both liked snowboarding and surfing. Now we both additionally like biking and hiking. So when I g

Jenner, California

The twins returned from grad night around 2-2:30am this morning and I woke them up around 11:00am. We were heading to Jenner with Anika to hike today. Anika arrived at 11:30 and we were on our way to Jenner Headlands Preserve. We began up the Sea to Sky Trail, which would ultimately be a 15 mile round-trip trail, with 3,500' elevation gain and labeled as strenuous. While generally we would hike 3 miles every hour or 45 min, beginning at 11:30am, we thought it best to just play it by ear and be mindful of a turn around time if need be. This hike would take an experienced hiker 7 hours round trip. Well it wasn't like you gradually inclined; right from the start you were heading up. The wind was 20 mph and the temperature was 57°. It was chilly and the wind wasn't exactly working in your favor. I was hiking with two boys half my age and girl that trail runs and works out more than regularly; to say I was out of my league was an understatement, lol.

Trenton & Trevor

I made myself sleep in today to at least 6:45am. I may have woken up afew times from 4am on, but I was determined to sleep in. Everyone had plans today, so I figured maybe I'd take off on a bike ride or hike. I finally got up and made myself coffee and breakfast at 7. Around 7:30 and two cups of coffee later one of the twins Trevor texted me from the other room to tell me about a bike trail close by. So I looked up the trail and it was about 15 miles. Graduation wasn't until 6pm, so I had a whole day to kill, maybe I could do the trail and then a small hike. Well, another thing I wanted to do was compile my videos into one and when I was looking at music tracks I couldn't figure out how to add music that wasn't manufactured default. So here I am now on a mission to figure this out. I'm youtubing, Googling, trying different apps. See, I had a specific song in mind and getting there almost seemed impossible. I literally can geek out on this kind of stuff

Golden Gate Bridge

This morning I woke up at 3:45am and headed out the door at 5am to San Francisco. I'm going to take this moment to share my love of Bonine. I wouldn't have been able to drive the Tioga Pass or today, the Sonora Pass, let alone absolutely enjoy both drives, had I not taken it. I had no motion sickness and I'd like to say it improved my singing, lol. So, here I am going up Sonora Pass and I see a sign say trucks need to turn around there is a 25% grade. I'm not sure what I thought 25% meant, but what I experienced was not it. There were hairpin turns and warnings for 10mph, this Pass was definitely no joke. The more I drove the more I wondered if it would have been faster to take the Tioga Pass than the Sonora, but here we were. I arrived in San Francisco around 10:30am and headed down Presidio, then up Lincoln to Langdon Court Parking lot. I got my bike out directed it towards the Golden Gate Bridge. I've been here so many times

Yosemite National Park

What a beautiful day in Yosemite! I took off this morning close to 6am and headed to the SR120 Tioga Pass to enter Yosemite through the east entrance. I had checked the weather yesterday and it said it was going to be 96°, so I work shorts and a t-shirt. Dont forget my lucky pins from Christina!  Last minute I put a dry fit long sleeve and a jacket in the car incase a.) I had too much sun and b.) if the wind picked up I had a jacket. Well, I got to Tuolumne River & Tenaya Lake and it was 39°. Granted the Pass is higher than the valley floor, I was sure glad I had my jacket with me. It took me about 2 hours to get down to Yosemite Valley, where I parked at Happy Isle and made my way down to the trailhead for Mist trail. From Mist Trail, I planned on doing Vernal and Nevada Falls. It was about a 7.2 mile hike with 2, 216 ft elevation gain. I stopped at the fork, where rangers were checking for Half Dome permits.
