Joshua Tree to Big Bear
We get to Big Bear drop off a vehicle and tour to the otherside of town to start. "It's an easy trail," Pleaman said. No problems. We get to the trail and begin our climb. Big Bear sits at about 6,700 feet or so, and our trail had about an 1,800 elevation gain. About 400 feet in, the altitude took over and I decided I'm just gonna take a seat in the middle of the trail. Oh yea, easy trail, cool.
We finally make it to the next trail point and Pleman looks at the map and begins to tell me if I imagine turning the map physically around, then that's where we are. Um, okay? As we get lost 3 times, it's apparent that isnt how that map works. Granted, had we just looked 10 feet away we would have seen the trail marker was in front of our faces.
So, we go down the trail because clearly the scenic view will be better than the fire road that parallels the trail, right? No, lol; it's the exact same view.
So maybe 1000 ft later we are now hiking our bikes back up to the fire road once more.
We ride down, find a local burger joint and have lunch. We literally entered this restaurant and I kid you not, more people were employees than I think customers. As we ate more people began clocking in. I don't know what was going on here or if it was a shift change, but it was fascinating to say the least. All jokes aside, it was a beautiful Saturday in the mountains, what more could you ask for; minus the bee I thought was attacking me, all is well.
